Wyman’s of Maine: Blueberry Goodness

February 17, 2014 By: Christinecomment

Wyman’s of Maine Review

I’ve been a fan of Wyman’s of Maine frozen fruit for years.  Much of my family hails from the wonderful state of Maine, so when the company reached out to me to do  a review of their frozen blueberries it was a no-brainer.  I ADORE this Maine company and I’m happy to tell you about them.

I was given a bag of blueberries to facilitate my review, but all thoughts are my own and to be honest, these blueberries are a staple in my home.

Wyman's of Maine

Wyman’s of Maine

History of Wyman’s of Maine

Founded by Jasper Wyman in 1874, Jasper Wyman & Son is a family-owned company with a heritage of leadership in the growing and marketing of Wild Blueberries. Over the course of generations, the company has absolutely perfected the science of fresh freezing fruit for optimum flavor and nutritional benefits. Its signature brand, Wyman’s of Maine, is recognized as setting the bar high for all frozen fruit production.

Where are the blueberries harvested?

They grow Wyman’s Wild Blueberries on more than 10,000 acres of their own barrens as well as the fields of other Wyman growers from Maine, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, where the subsidiary Wyman’s of PEI is located.  Please  view a short video about growing, harvesting, and fresh-freezing Wyman’s Wild Blueberries.

Sustainability Matters

Wyman’s farms and processing plants are living proof of our commitment to sustainable agriculture and the welfare of future generations.  They take their responsibilities as good employers and good neighbors seriously. And are deeply engaged in protecting the health of honeybees – the pollinators that sustain our farms.

The blueberry is a Super Food!

Delicious and Healthy

Wyman’s frozen fruit is packed with a wide range of nutrients that are vital for your health. It truly is a SUPER FOOD!  In fact, research shows that people who eat more fruits and vegetables as part of an overall healthy diet may have a lower risk of some chronic diseases.

Fruit Nutrition

Fresh or frozen, fruit is one of Mother Nature’s most amazing foods! Here’s why it’s important to add more fruit to your diet:

  • Most fruits are naturally low in calories, sodium and fat – zero cholesterol!
  • Fruits provide many essential nutrients that we need more of, including:
    • Potassium – Important to help combat high blood pressure, a risk factor for heart disease. May also reduce the risk of developing kidney stones and help to decrease bone loss.
    • Dietary fiber – Important to help reduce blood cholesterol levels and may lower risk of heart disease, obesity and type 2 diabetes. Also important for proper bowel function.
    • Vitamin C – Important for growth and repair of all body tissues and keeps teeth and gums healthy. Provides antioxidant defense against infection and disease.
    • Folate (folic acid) – Helps the body form red blood cells and helps reduce the risk of birth defects.
  • Fiber-rich fruit satisfies your hunger with fewer calories, helping you to maintain a healthy body weight.
  • Fruits are a source of phytonutrients or compounds that naturally occur only in plants and are associated with a wide range of potential health benefits. Phytonutrients work synergistically with the vitamins, minerals and fiber in whole fruits to help reduce disease risk.

Cheerleader Smoothie

When my oldest saw the bag of Wyman’s Maine Blueberries in the freezers she jumped at the chance to make a smoothie.  There is an awesome recipe right on the bag, so she went ahead and made one.  Check out the video –
