Stone Zoo Our Visit #Zoofie

Summer is here and we’re always looking for something to do as a family and Zoo New England has just the ticket, a trip to the zoo.

Right now you can enter to win a 4 pack of tickets to Zoo New England along with 4 camel trek passes through our  Rafflecopter Giveaway Here. Valued at over $100.

Mom’s Lifesavers was invited to tour the Stone Zoo in Stoneham, MA with our family in order to facilitate this review. All opinions expressed are our own.

Visiting the Zoo

Located only minutes off of Route 93 in Stoneham, the Stone Zoo is very easy to find and there is plenty of parking right at the entrance. The Stone Zoo is smaller in size than it’s sister zoo, Franklin Park Zoo, but still offers a great variety of animal encounters and can easily be navigated with a stroller.

We were very impressed with our bear visit. We were able to see the 2 resident, rescue bears up close and personal: Bubba and Smokey,  even on one of the hottest days of the year.

Events At the Stone Zoo

Be sure to check out the schedule of events online when you are planning your trip. There is an amazing bird show, Masters of Flight: Birds of Prey that is a free-flight, interactive bird show that runs daily through Labor Day – you won’t want to miss it (it runs approximately 15 minutes).

Other great opportunities to see the animals are at the Barnyard, a petting zoo area that is open daily, weather permitting. Be sure to check out other happenings like The Reindeer Encounter, Alligator, Gibbon and Snow Leopard Training. You can find out more at What’s Happening.

We had a wonderful time visiting with the flamingos and their newest additions. The babies hatch a bright white and get gray as they get older, they were so much fun to watch.

Our son was fascinated with the kookaburra (pictured lower left) and I couldn’t get over the ‘headdress’ look of the rhinoceros hornbill – wow.

Chessie taking a Cat Nap

Chessie, the jaguar at the Stone Zoo, wasn’t phased by all of us snapping pictures and trying to take #zoofie pictures with her. Her coat was absolutely spectacular and her paws were so much bigger than we thought they would be.
