How We Found Shellback Artworks

That’s right. I had just put my son through an insufferable shoe shopping exercise in Wells, Maine when we were headed home.

We chose to head back a different way and saw the Shellback Artworks sign on the side of the road. It was worth a shot to check it our right? Oh yes!

Shellback Artworks is located at 1509 Post Road in Wells, Maine.

Meeting Owner, Steve Lavigne

Shellback Artworks is owned and operated by Steve Lavigne, a resident of Wells, Maine. Steve is known for his work with the comic book series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) at Mirage Studios for over 25 years!

Shellback Artworks is home to some incredible TMNT art, images, statues and more! Included is not only a wide variety of turtle memorabilia but also collectibles from some childhood favorites and Cartoon Network.

Make a Trip of It!

There is a gallery located upstairs from the store. Steve also teaches in that space, you will see the drawing tables in the center of the gallery – how cool is that?

The main level has comic books, memorabilia and a great selection of art supplies!

We picked up some new pens, an oversized clipboard (perfect for drawing) as well as the latest TMNT comic book! Steve graciously autographed the the comic, featuring his cover design AND a t-shirt!

We’ll be Back to Shellback!

Our son really enjoyed his impromptu visit and we will definitely be heading back, hopefully to sign up for some classes and get the next issue!
