Artist Stefan Mierz of Rockport has contributed his painting of the Motif for this year’s festival
Motif No.1 Day Festival has been a yearly staple for 65 years in beautiful and quaint Rockport, Massachusetts. I remember it every year when my Innkeeper parents would have the Inn ready to go for all the visitors that would come to town for this wonderful event. My first was 1979 and it was the highlight of my life! Visitors from all over come to this wonderful event and it’s a true Rockport tradition in my family and we hope you can make it a family tradition, too.
About Motif No.1 Day
The Motif No.1 Day is created to celebrate the arts like, visual arts, fine arts, film, poetry, dance, music. So the day is chock-full of activities throughout the entire day. Historical presentations and a 5k and Fun Run, with proceeds to benefit Rockport Public Schools’ wellness initiatives, is also scheduled. Take a look at a full listing of activities HERE.

Celebrating the arts in Rockport is something they do so well and the line of offerings really is AWESOME! And the entire day celebrates the fishing shack, Motif #1 that started it all!
The Motif #1 is an old building right on one of Rockport’s historic wharves that was painted so often by artists at the turn of the last century that it was given the nickname Motif No.1 by Lester Hornby, a well know artist and instructor of the period.
