Thanksgiving Fun!

This simple craft is a huge hit with kids of all ages! And it’s filled with a SURPRISE!

We all know just how squirmy the kids can get at the table leading up to the Thanksgiving feast. Why not surprise them with a turkey of their own? Our paperbag turkey is a hit at the kids table and provides a popcorn filling as an appetizer before the big meal. Follow our step-by-step photo tutorial below to make your very own!

Supplies You Need:

  • 1 Large brown paper bag from the supermarket
  • 2 Lunch size sandwich brown paper bags
  • 4 Plastic shopping bags
  • 1 Sheet of white copy paper
  • Glue gun
  • Scissors
  • 1 Bag of popcorn, or puffed snack food – we used a .6oz bag of white cheddar popcorn

Steps

1. Start by opening up the large brown bag and then crumbling it.

2. Open the bag back up and place it logo side down.

TIP – If you bag has logos on both sides, turn the bag inside out.

3. Place the snack bag inside the large bag and close the top.

This will be the ‘neck’ of your turkey so you can tuck it in, roll it slightly to close it.

4. Now its time to make the turkey legs. You will use the lunch size bags for this.

5. Open each lunch size bag and crumble it, then open it back up.

6. Place 2 plastic bags inside each brown lunch size bag and twist the opening to create a ‘turkey leg’.

7. Now to add some ‘fringe’ to the legs. Cut a piece of copy paper in half length wise.

8. Fold each piece in half again, length wise. Using scissors, snip the folded side to create a fringe.

9. Next, wrap the fringe around the ends of the turkey legs and glue in place.

10. To assemble the legs to the ‘turkey body’ use hot glue. Hold the pieces in place to give the glue a moment to set.

TIP – Make sure you have the legs ‘pointing’ in the right direction.

11. Place your ‘turkey’ on a serving plate and ‘garnish’ – we used some artificial gourds and some paper doilies.
