Family Travel at it’s Best!

We had the opportunity to visit to the Harbor View Hotel on beautiful Martha’s Vineyard in April. We’re so excited to share our thoughts and fun videos with you. As many of you know, I grew up on a resort in Rockport, Mass and have first-hand experience in the travel industry. I have over 25 years of living that life, and hope my insights will help you navigate your next trip to the Vineyard.

I took both of my teens to the Harbor View Hotel for a night over April vacation. Most of their friends headed to indoor water resorts or jetted South. But as a New England mom, I decided to get my kiddos on a ferry to an island getaway in our home state of Massachusetts. Reservations were really easy and they truly listened to our needs as a family. The Harbor View Hotel offers charming guest rooms and suites, renowned local cuisine, a variety of waterfront activities, and is just a five-minute walk or bike ride to the activities of Edgartown. The venerable story of our historic Martha’s Vineyard hotel combined with contemporary décor and amenities creates a stay that is the best of the past and present. Always.

This was THE best ‘staycation’ we’ve ever had. My girls haven’t stopped talking about it, and my working husband is kicking himself for not getting the time off to come.

Are you looking for an awesome vacation with your family? Better yet, with your teenagers? Traveling with teens is tricky and what I found is that they’re easier to please than you think!

Teens are looking to be active, explore, shop and just have FUN.  Believe it or not, spending time with you is really a bonus for them. I’m serious! Martha’s Vineyard is THE place to take your family this summer. We had the best time!

Stormy Ferry Ride

First, you must get to the island. Take a look at how our adventure began. We did get on the early commercial transport ferry with the trucks and locals. It was SO cool and the ferry back was on the regular ferry so the kids experienced both. Here we are on a blustery day out to the Vinyard:

Harbor View Hotel is AMAZING!

The easy location of Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown is perfect. You can take a taxi or public transportation to the hotel from the Ferry or drive your own car – about a 15 minute drive or so. There is ample parking at the hotel. The hotel has awesome accommodations and luxury cottages available. Please take a look at their beatiful website for full details on their offerings. They have a LOT and so worth some time on their website.

Harbor View Cottage Video Review!

The hotel offered us one of their cottages for the night. Here is the cottage review of our accommodations — perfect for a family like ours. These cottages are set back from the hotel and do not have water views, but gorgeous views of their gardens and the amazing NEW pool.

We were able to tour the rooms in the main hotel. What a place. So many options for travelers, from ocean room suites, perfect for couples – to 2 room suites great for small families. Each room was clean, well appointed and thoughtfully decorated. All the amenities you need are there. We even were able to take a look at the brand new pool area. It’s truly what I want to see at the height of the season this summer!

Henry’s Restaurant

We had the most delicious dinner at Henry’s right at the hotel. We didn’t have go very far for an impeccable dinner. Take a look at our photo collage for proof on how amazing our dinner was…dreaming about it now! My girls loved the corner table, all cozy with a view of the water and Edgartown lighthouse. Our meals were DELICIOUS! Service was top-notch. Our dessert was so innovative – we had a sampler plate of chocolate, chocolate mousse, and french pastries!

The service was perfect and they treated my teens with so much care.

Edgartown Light House and Beach

Right in front of  the hotel is a really cool lighthouse and beach you can walk out to. This was a huge draw with my teens. They wanted to take in the natural beauty and we haven’t talked that much in a long time! My girls were admiring the scenery, picked shells and did cartwheels in the sand. It was SO FUN! True bonding time.

Location, Location, Location

The Harbor View is in an awesome location. My girls were able to freely walk downtown by themselves to shop and grab bagels and coffee in the morning. They also took a little jog around Edgartown and stated that they will be living there as adults!

Creating Lasting Family Memories

As my girls are getting older, family legacy is something that is important to me. Meaningful moments together are important. Thankfully, my girls are just as happy going to a seaside resort, than say, Disney World. To soak in the sights, to learn how to truly bask in the joy of a New England style vacation is important to me. This resort offers it up, and then some.

As an adventurous mom, I wanted to take the kids out to landsend to see Gay Head Light. Well, it was an epic fail and we do we talk about this nearly everyday now?
