American Girl Store, New York Part II

April 15, 2013 By: Bonniecomment

The American Girl Salon Experience

What an amazing experience not only for the doll but for us too! We arrived at the storefront located on 5th Avenue in Manhattan just after 9 AM and headed right upstairs to the 3rd floor to book an appointment at the salon.

TIP – Don’t get distracted with the shopping and sights – there will be plenty of time for that, go upstairs and book that appointment!

Our daughter had plans of a mini makeover – a clean up, ear piercing and a new hair style – all of these were available and we went for all of them!

BEFORE

At 10:30 we headed back to the salon for ‘Liberty’s’ appointment. The first order of business was ear piercing. Our stylist took Liberty outback for the piercing and returned within a minute – with star ‘pierced’ ears – we were told she didn’t even cry!

TIP – The cost to pierce the ears was $15 and included 3 additional pairs of earrings and 3 pairs of dangles to interchange with them – I thought this was a deal – the earrings have a thick post, they are not the same as what we wear in our ears. We also received a flyer on how to care for the doll’s earrings and changing them.

Next up a facial scrub. Liberty got a wonderful cleaning and we received toenail decals for her and a ‘skin care’ flyer for taking care of Liberty.

Facial Time!

Following the scrub it was time to get to the hair. Out came the pony tails and the stylist went to work. Our daughter had picked the ‘style of the month’ which cost $20 and was available for our doll’s hair length.

TIP – When booking the appointment there is a book of styles to select from – not all styles are available for all dolls – it depends on the length of their hair

This was an amazing transformation – with water and a wire brush (we were told to start at the bottom and work up) her hair was completely transformed from her well loved and styled locks to a smooth, style ready head of hair.

Can you believe it? Look how smooth!

Our daughter was able to select everything from the color of elastics used to the color of ribbon she would have in her finished style. The stylist was wonderful at engaging our daughter, asking her where she was from, questions about her doll and favorite activities.

AFTER The Finished Hair!

Over all the process took about a half an hour and what a great job! We all loved the new hairdo.
