What a Two Year Old Can Do ( Part Two 30-36 months)

Here is the second part of a Two Year Olds Development. This is a fun time, ENJOY!

2 Year Old (30 – 36 months) PART TWO


Gross Motor
• Walks up stairs using alternating feet
• Hops on one foot
• Climbs well on climbing structures and ladders
• Runs very well


Fine Motor
• Builds a 9 cube tower
• Imitates drawing a horizontal line
• Snips on a line with scissors
• Copies circle already drawn

Cognitive
• Completes 3 – 4 piece puzzles
• Understands sizes, small or large and stacks rings in correct order
• Can count to 10
• Loves books, being read to, and “reading” alone
• Plays house
• Knows most body parts


Language
• Familiar adults understand most of what is said
• Tells you their needs, such as “I’m hungry” and “I want to play”
• Tells you stories and experiences they’ve had
• Tells you their name, age, and town they live in
• Asks tons of questions using what, where, and when
• Gets frustrated when not understood
• Names many pictures on flash cards


Social/Emotional
• Wants to do things independently with success and loves praise
• Starts to obey and follow rules, and understands consequences
• May have a hard time transitioning from one activity to the next
• Likes to create, but often needs help to complete the task
• Loves group circle time and interactive games with others
• Expresses concern for others


Self-Help
• Wants to help with adult tasks, such as setting and clearing the table
• Starts to remember dreams, and may have bad ones
• Naps may have stopped
• Likes pouring liquids such as “tea” at a tea party
• Dressing: puts on coat, dress and shirt (except for buttoning), able to undo large buttons, naps, and shoelaces
