Hosting a Pirate Party with Mom's Lifesavers

What type of party Arrrrrrr you looking for?

It’s A Pirate’s Life for Me!

Hosting a pirate party is easier than you think. Arrrrrr family loves hosting parties with a pirate theme flair to them. Maybe it’s because pirates, like people, come in every shape and size so there is something for everyone.

Growing up by the water, surrounded by boats, I have always enjoyed the mystery behind the romantic side of pirates, yes, there is a dark side to piracy, after all they are called pirates for a reason. This post is about finding the fun and theatrical side of the life of a pirate and sharing it with your friends and family at a pirate themed party.  Funny Bones Super Party Store in Salisbury, Mass has EVERYTHING you need for hosting a pirate party.  They were generous to offer us an inside scoop on what’s hot in Pirate Party trends!

Step 1: Costumes

Best Costume Trophies, Sashes and Ribbons – Encourage Your Guest to Wear Costumes

Set the stage by offering a prize for the best pirate costume, this could be anything from a bag of gold (chocolate coins unless you have extra of the real thing just laying around) or a party trophy.

Pirates Come In All Shapes, Sizes and Ages – Find A Costume That’s Right for You!

Check out your local party store for costumes. Our local store, Funny Bones Party in Salisbury, MA, not only offers full costumes for kids and adults, but also accessories to add that pirate style to an existing outfit you already have.

  • Start at the top – a hat, a scarf, a wig – they all will add to the costumes look and feel and your pirate transformation. Don’t forget the hook hand!
  • Makeup – with the newest FX makeup you can add a scar or other gruesome look to your pirate profile or for a softer flirtier pirate style, go with some faux lashes.
  • Facial accessories can also include adhesive mustaches and clip on earrings for younger pirates and don’t forget the eye patch!

Accessorize!  Even pirates want to look good.

Gold Beads & Fun Gem Jewelry Make For Great Accessories and Loot!

  • Tip – take a pair of old boots or shoes and add some buckles and straps to them – I bet you have few belts in your closet that could be ‘up-cycled’.
  • Add a lantern, a cutlass, a sword or even a telescope and compass (so you can be on the lookout for mermaids!)
  • Bling – add some gold jewelry and gems, from necklaces to rings and earrings, pirates like to show off their treasure.

Add Accessories to Give Your Pirate Costume Some Flair

Step 2: Get Your Game On!

A pirate party is the perfect party for a treasure or scavenger hunt. Hand out maps as clues and send your pirates out in search of treasure. A candy filled piñata or chest filled with loot can be the prize – it can be anything from bubbles, boats or even coloring books for the kids.

X Marks the Spot

Instead of pin the tail on the donkey why not pin the ‘X’ on the map? You can make one of these at home. Print out a satellite or road map from the computer of where you live and see if your pirates can mark the party place with an ‘X’ on the map.

Set the Scene Add Some Fog to Your Party

Step 4: Set the Scene

Decorating for a pirate party can run from simple to over the top.

  • Hang a Jolly Roger flag to welcome your guests.
  • Balloons are always a great way set a mood. There is no shortage of specialty balloons out there.
  • Gather up some rope and fish netting for effect. Drape netting over wall hangings or use it as a table cover.
  • Party beads in gold and pearl are inexpensive and easy to decorate with. Drape them, place them in a bowl and of course … wear them!
  • Want to add a little fog? Now that would be cool! We checked out some fog machines at our local party store, Funny Bones Party in Salisbury, MA – they stock these all year long.
