Cake Pops are Perfect for Celebrating the 4th!

Patriotic Pops for July 4th

Super simple, and super sweet – these special occasion ‘pops’ are really doughnut holes in disguise. Our kids always want to help in the kitchen – and I love that! What I’m not as thrilled about is collecting all the ingredients, doing the prep work and the clean up!

These cake pops are perfect for the kids to make with little help in the kitchen from an adult. It gives them some ‘independence’ in the kitchen and makes for a fun and easy dessert that is perfect for a family BBQ on the 4th of July.

What You Need

Gather your ingredients and supplies- there are not too many (yay!)

  • Seasonal Colored sprinkles*
  • White candy melts*
  • Plain doughnut holes
  • Lollipop sticks*

*We used Wilton Brand candy melts, sprinkles and lollipop sticks that we got at Michaels

First step – melt a handful of candy melts according to the package directions, we used the microwave – STIR OFTEN.

Next, dip just the top of the lollipop stick into the melted candy and insert into a doughnut hole – put it aside and continue with the next one.

TIP – You want the stick to ‘set’ into the doughnut hole – the candy melts will act as ‘glue’.

Once all the sticks are set, melt up a larger batch of candy melts – using a deeper bowl that will allow you to ‘dip’ each pop in. Final steps – dip each pop into the melted candy coating and the cover with your favorite sprinkle confection.

Set your pops aside to dry/firm up – we used a piece of white craft Styrofoam to hold them up and keep them from touching while they dry.

Finishing touches – cellophane bag and some matching ribbon – perfect for party favors.
Special thanks to my crafty sis for sharing her Patriotic Pops with Mom’s Lifesavers!
