Mom’s Lifesaver Tried and True Event

We love this event and have been going every year since 2000.  It’s the perfect summer kick off event you and you kids will enjoy.

In its 14th year, Hampton Beach Master Sand Sculpting Competition is ready for another awesome contest.  One of the largest sand sculpting competition on the Eastern seaboard.  Ten sculptors are hoping to win the $15,000 prize! Attendees can watch the master sculptures work and the venue is even lit up at night!  Every time we go we are able to chat with the artists and ask questions.

Finished displays stay in place through July 6.

411 on the Competition

  • 250 tons of imported sand is used for competition
  • Venue is illuminated for night viewing
  • Invitation only to create a sand sculpture for the event – 10 total
  • Funded by the Hampton Beach Village District, The Hampton Chamber and NH Division of Parks
  • Over the course of the event nothing but sand, water, and their own creativity are used
  • Finished sculptures are sprayed with windscreen (a solution of school glue and water)s to protect them from the elements and long term viewing until July 6
  • June 19-21, 2014
  • Hampton Beach, Hampton New Hampshire
  • Located near the Hampton Casino and outdoor music venue

Behind the Scenes & How it all Started with the Grady Bunch!

Watch the first sand artist at Hampton Beach, Gregory Grady and “The Grady Bunch” build a mammoth Sand Demo Site.  It all began in 2000 with twenty-five cents. One quarter…The New Hampshire Quarter!

Local artist and master sand sculptor Gregory Grady was commissioned by the U.S. Mint to create a larger than life replica of the new tail side edition New Hampshire quarter out of ten tons of sand during the Hampton Beach Children’s Festival. At that time, it was just a part if the statewide celebration held for the release of that coin. It was something Hampton Beach had never seen the likes of before!
