Day Trip Series – Lost River Gorge!

June 28, 2013 By: Bonniecomment

Lost River Gorge and Boulder Caves
North Woodstock, New Hampshire

Looking for some place to go that is cool and wet? Don’t have the beach in mind? How about visiting the Lost River Gorge? Our family did and it was a blast!

Yes, we crawled around the caves and explored every nook and cranny – what a fun day with the kids!

“Your exploration of Lost River can be as easy or as ambitious as you choose. You may remain on the boardwalk, or accept the challenge of boulder caves such as the Dungeon and the Lemon Squeezer; it’s up to you. To make your adventure more enjoyable, sturdy footwear and outdoor clothing are recommended and no strollers are allowed in the Gorge.” – Lost River Gorge

Children 3 and under are free and there are military adult and child discounts as well. Ticket Info Here.

TIP – Bring some inexpensive flashlights for the kids! This will make exploring even more fun and adventurous – play clothes are a must – there are lots of opportunities to climb and crawl!
Check out these PHOTOS from the Lost River Gorge website – there are images of each of the formations you will encounter.

Experiencing Lost River in the daytime not exciting enough?

How about a Lantern Tour in the evening followed by s’mores at a campfire (TIP – not recommended for children under 5 due to safety concerns – but I bet your TWEEN would LOVE IT!)

Bring a camera – the scenery is incredible – you’ll feel like you have gone back in time!

TIP – Wear good walking shoes – the boardwalks can be slippery when they are wet and there are lots of stairs and opportunities to climb if you so desire.

How about some history? Lost River Gorge has it! Read here to learn more about the events of 300 million years ago that started it all!

Worried about rain? Don’t be – we have done this trip in wet weather as well – just dress for it and you’ll still have a good time!

What adventures do you have in store for the family this summer? We’d love to hear from you!
