Moms' Lifesavers

I recently had the opportunity to read an amazing book called "Moms' Lifesavers, Tips to make Life Easier for New Mothers", by Christine Cohen and Joanne Tocci.

This is a wonderful resource for new moms or a refresher course for other moms.

Moms' Lifesavers starts with the basics before the baby arrives, and leads you through breastfeeding, preschool and beyond. I love the money saving tips and recipes for fun. Truly inventive! These two moms have done their homework, and it shows.

My personal favorite, is the milestone section. They have included a place for date and comments, from birth to age five. I am sure all moms want to complete a baby book with all the milestones, but that takes a lot of effort and TIME. Moms' Lifesavers has the perfect place to write about all those milestones and more. Everything right at your fingertips.

It is an indispensable guide you'll reach for every time!

"I love this book! I have a toddler who is 2.5 yrs. old and a baby on the way and it was equally applicable for both. Last week we were looking at pre-schools and it was full of useful information on what to keep in mind while searching. There are so many great craft project ideas as well. It has been 2.5 yrs. since I took care of a newborn so it was very nice to get a ton of useful re-fresher tips on how to care for my baby on the way. I breezed through this book and intend to keep it as a guide throughout the next several years."

Mom’s Lifesavers: Tips to Make Life Easier For New Moms

New moms will agree that new mom advice is easy to come by. For example, there's your mother-in-law and her stories about brandy in the baby bottle, or your childless cousin who's quick to tell you about the evils of television watching. What's hard to come by, however, is good advice. Fortunately, quite a bit of it has arrived in the form of Moms' Lifesavers: Tips to Make Life Easier for New Mothers. The paperback reference guide is more magazine-y than big intimidating expert book-y, filled with new mama wisdom from 100 moms around the country.

Reading through the book is like sitting down with your friends and trading secrets about what not to buy for a newborn, how to manage the grocery store with kids in tow, craft ideas that won't make you bonkers, or even just sensible moneysaving ideas. The back of the book includes a list of great online web resources, plus charts where you can note developmental milestones through age four. But the coolest part is that each short chapter provides space to jot down your own little lifesavers. So perhaps when you're done with the book you'll pass it along to a friend in need, having unofficially added yourself to the list of mom experts that helped to write the book. To purchase the book visit any R&W store.

Classy Mommy
This book is a treasure of advice for Moms. Written by Moms for Moms.

It is easy to read with short to the point chapters with invaluable nuggets of wisdom. If your pressed for time or have quick questions, the table of contents is organized to lead you quickly to answers. Classy Mommy loves the Developmental Milestone guideline tables at the end of the book that go all the way to 30 months - and leave room for you to date and comment on your own babies special achievements. Even better - this book is thin, lightweight and only 130 pages - easy for you to slip into an overnight bag or read on the road - unlike the reference baby books that feel more like a college textbook.

All moms likely have felt completely adrift at one time or another. Here we are, faced with the most demanding job ever (although my last academic post runs a good race…), with no training, and no requirements for certification.

If you’re flailing, or looking for a useful quick reference, check out Moms' Lifesavers: Tips for Making Life Easier for New Mothers ($14.95 at Amazon), a book packed with tips for mothers, covering topics from birth to age 5. Compiled by two moms with training in childhood education and occupational therapy, this book – slim enough to tuck in your diaper bag or purse with little compromise – offers tips on everything from newborn care, to meals, to travel, to household management, to activities, to mom care, to book and web resources. In addition to the wealth of survival tips, we especially like the Recipes for Fun (do-it-yourself art supplies and craft projects) and Milestones to Remember sections; the latter summarizes developmental milestones from birth to 5 years, and leaves space to note the date and brief comments.

My Mommy's Place
Simple and straightforward, this book provides new mothers with helpful hints and advice from moms who have been there. It is a quick read and a ready reference for new moms with little time on their hands. Space is provided throughout for making notes, and a developmental chart for recording milestones month by month is also included.

Swanky Moms
The Moms’ Lifesavers book is a great read! It is ten chapters of wonderful, informative tips for moms by moms! There are three additional chapters of resources and websites. It also has developmental checklists for birth to age 5 so the new mom can fill in dates and comments. This is definitely a fabulous book and I would recommend it to any first time moms! I wish I had this book when I was a new parent instead of the 10 encyclopedia size parenting books I had! This book has all the pertinent information you need with up to date advice, tips and well researched facts and what I liked best was that it’s not an opinion of one person, it is a compilation of tried and true tips from a variety of everyday experienced moms like you and I! From teething, grocery shopping, housecleaning and travel tips to the “must have” list of toys by age, they got it covered! AWESOME BOOK!

Manic Mommies
Advice for new moms

Are you a new mom or know someone who is? Forego the overrated “What to Expect the First Year” and pick up Moms' Lifesavers by Christine Cohen and Joanne Tocci instead. Valuable, practical, and simple tips that only another Manic Mommy would know to share. Like this advice from the trenches: add 15 minutes (+5 minutes per additional child) for any time-sensitive tasks like leaving the house, doing a project, or making meals.
